📝 The Distorted Face emoji was officially released in September 2025, as part of Emoji 17.0. While it began appearing on early-adopter services in late 2025, it is becoming widely available throughout 2026.
Meaning and Usage
The distorted face emoji depicts a yellow face with exaggerated, outwards-slanting large eyes and a small neutral mouth, conveying intense shock, panic, or anxiety as if the face is puffed up and on the verge of bursting from pressure. It reminds of the defensive mechanism of a pufferfish, which inflates its body when threatened — compare it to the dedicated 🐡 Blowfish emoji for the animal version of the same "puffed-up" look.
Commonly used for moments of sudden surprise, vulnerability, feeling bloated with stress, or exaggerated cartoonish overwhelm in awkward or hyped situations that quickly deflate.
